Keep it local and bird-friendly: Exploring the social acceptance of wind energy in Switzerland, Estonia, and Ukraine

The literature on social acceptance of wind energy has identified several important characteristics shaping the a planned project. These include distributional and procedural justice, as well other project-related factors. Project do not exist in isolation influence one another. As result, need for more consistent comparisons been highlighted an research gap. current paper addresses this gap with help large-scale analysis (N = 2003) that examines projects Switzerland, Estonia, Ukraine through choice experiments. Our shows some exploratory evidence country-specific differences: A tradition direct democratic decision-making might lead placing emphasis we also identify early differences between individualist collectivist countries terms preferences justice. However, find ecological impact was most attribute all three countries, respondents tend appreciate local ownership.
